Minehead First School Making sure school matters to every child

Our Curriculum

Minehead First School is located between the beautiful Exmoor National Park and the Bristol Channel.

Our curriculum reflects and draws on our unique locality to ensure the children have a strong knowledge of their local area but also equips them to understand and adventure into the wider world.

The curriculum is deliberately planned to:

  • Be coherent and meaningful with carefully planned progression, enabling children to reinforce and systematically build upon their knowledge and skills.

  • Equip all children with the academic skills they will require for success in their future education and life.

  • Be aspirational, challenging children to think and to navigate the world around them.

  • Offer meaningful experiences, enrichments and opportunities, to provide real-life contexts and motivate the children to learn.

  • Promote the wellbeing of our children, including developing their emotional literacy and resilience.

  • Ensure the children become active and kind citizens', knowing that they are part of a school and local community, but also part of something bigger and they have something to contribute to this.

  • Provide opportunities to celebrate the achievements of individuals and the school community.
